Winning more work is usually not about bidding lower. It is about bidding better.
- Bid fewer, better-matched jobs. Hit rate rises the moment you stop chasing work outside your wheelhouse.
- Qualify the bid list. If you do not know who else is bidding, you do not know what you are bidding against.
- Read the addenda. Every one, in order.
- Write real exclusions. A clean scope letter wins ties.
- Price the general conditions honestly. Underpricing GCs is how contractors buy work they lose money on.
- Get quotes early. Supplier pricing on bid day is not pricing, it is hope.
- Offer value engineering. One credible alternate can move you from third to first.
- Present the number clearly. A readable one-page summary beats a spreadsheet dump.
- Follow up within 48 hours. Ask where you landed, every time.
- Track your results. Log every bid, every outcome and every spread. Six months of that data is worth more than any cost book.
None of these require cutting your margin. All of them compound.
